Oil Pulling Using Coconut Oil

Oil Pulling:

In my opinion, there really is no other ‘easier’ form of a natural all-round health treatment out there than simple ‘oil pulling’. This alternative form of treatment can be carried out right in your own home, and only takes a fifteen to twenty minutes to administer. All you need are beneficial oils (such as coconut oil) and a tablespoon. People have indicated that this form of treatment has a number of benefits on your health. Initially I was very skeptical (as I always am about things like this), but it does have a surprising 'healthy feeling' impact after a short period of treatments. I guess this may also be a psychological thing, as if you think it makes you feel better, it often does. Yet, if it works for you, then I say continue doing it.

So what is oil pulling? Well the idea of oil rolling or pulling is to pull out all of the bad toxins that reside in your blood and body, particularly the some intense ones that reside in your mouth and between your teeth. This is done by swishing a tablespoon of oil around your mouth for about twenty minutes or so, before spitting out the oil and toxins into the trash, or down the sink. It is then recommended that you rinse your mouth, or brush your teeth afterwards to remove any 'left over' toxins and oil.

You need to perform this treatment in the mornings, as well as preferably on an empty stomach for the best effects. That said, many also perform this before sleeping, last thing at night when the stomach should also be more or less empty.

This alternative form of treatment is highly beneficial for clearing your body of all of those toxins which could have a harmful effect on you. When you put a pill under your tongue, it is absorbed by the body very easily via the thin membrane under your tongue. Oil pulling reportedly works in a similar way to this method, but in reverse. Essentially it is pulling the toxins out of your body through that membrane. It is also helping to remove the bad (and sometimes dangerous) bacteria that resides on, or in between, your teeth and gums. Let’s take a little look at some of the benefits that this reportedly can provide. It is well researched, but please bear in mind that not everything we consider to be 'facts' today, will necessarily turn out to still be facts in the future.

One thing to remember with oil pulling is that it isn’t a treatment designed for ‘specific’ ailments, although many people have reported that it does cure some of the problems they have suffered from on a permanent basis. You do have to be aware that this is a highly ‘individual’ treatment, and the benefits of it will vary from person to person, depending on your lifestyle and health. However, you should notice at least some benefits from the oil pulling process, often within one to two weeks of starting to pull oil.

As you are primarily removing toxins from the mouth, the majority of the early benefits are focused around this area. With oil pulling you can look to strengthen your teeth and gums, eliminate tooth decay, reverse gingivitis and even repair those loose teeth as the gums heal. It really is an ‘all in one’ solution for cleaning in your mouth. To cap this off, it will even whiten your teeth within a couple of weeks of starting and seemed to quickly gives a 'fresh out of the dentists' feel to your mouth. If you are a little embarrassed about your smile, then why not try using oil, and hopefully the changes will start to make you feel a bit more comfortable about cracking a smile.

It isn’t just oral problems that it is able to deal with however. Used for a long enough period, it can deal with many an ailment in the body. This can be partly from the pulling of toxins from the blood, but also the removal of the oral toxins that then often get into the tonsils and internal regions. People have known oil pulling to cure many different things, such as constant migraines, digestive issues, and they have even found that it reduces the symptoms of various issues such as menopause and constipation. It even has an amazing ability to help combat disease, in fact, many people that ‘oil pull’ say that they hardly ever get sick ... possibly due to the cleaner oral cavities and the body not having to constantly fight issues in that region.

Some people have found that the oil helps to relieve stress too, or even provide relief for their depression. The process may actually be a part of this, as swishing oil between your teeth and around your mouth is surprisingly meditative after the first few minutes. In fact, many times I forget that I am doing it and realize I've already gone past 20 minutes (which, isn't a problem by the way). Others have found that it helps combat chronic diseases such as high blood pressure and diabetes. It is even reported that it can help prevent and fight against some cancers (although, I'm assuming that this is partly due to increased health and reduced toxins in the body).

This honestly isn’t one of those ‘weird and wacky’ treatments; it actually does seem to work, although the benefits you look set to obtain do differ from person to person. You should consider trying it out, you really have nothing to lose except for twenty minutes of your day, which you can use to do other things whilst you swish the oil about anyway. You may even find that your health is going to improve substantially as a result, as the oil literally pulls toxins from your body via the skin in your mouth, almost the reverse of how medicine administered under the tongue works. It seems to also help with sleeping, as I now find that I awaken feeling clearer than before (no more groggy mornings is definitely a nice benefit!)... although this is just a personal observation, not a studied or highly reported benefit ... yet, I have read about others also noticing this benefit too.

Which Oil to Use for Oil Pulling

If you are considering using coconut oil for daily use, or for oil pulling, then the most highly recommend that I have come across so far is cold-pressed coconut oil.

However, if you are only oil pulling, there is the option to use other oils for similar benefits. For example, pure virgin olive oil is also meant to be good (but, doesn't taste as nice in my opinion).
