How to Submit Your Blog/Hub to Search Engines (Bing, Yahoo, Google) - Get More Readers!
By Brett.Tesol
Lay it out for Search Engines
Sometimes less is more, but not always. One neat looking article can make the blog look tidy, but it is not so good for search engines like Yahoo and Google to find your article and know exactly what it is about. It helps to use individual text capsules with clear titles, as search engines are more likely to pick up on the title. It also helps if you highlight in bold a few of the keywords, as this makes it easy for search engines and readers to quickly 'get the gist'.
Keywords
Keywords are the words that searches pick up on. They are how search engines link searches to articles or websites. Using keywords and variations (not too much) in you article, will help searchers come across it. However, using just 'Music' is not an option, so the more specific and long your keyword phrases are, the better. For example, if 'Ford' is too common, you could try and exact model, or even a part of the model like "For escort 19?? sports carburetor". They way you find these, or at least the easiest way, is to use "Google Keywords" a tool that will tell you how much competition there is for any keyword and also suggest alternatives.
Search Engine Submission
Now that you have your hub laid out neatly for search engines, they should eventually find it so long as you attract readers and write regularly. However, there is no reason why you can't give them a little nudge and submit your hubpages URL (www.YOURNAMEHERE.hubpages.com) to the search engines manually. That way, they will know you are on the web and will check out what content you have. To manually submit, it is worth going to at least a few major players, such as:
http://www.google.com/submityourcontent/
http://www.google.com/submityourcontent/website-owner/
Msn (Bing) and Yahoo (merged)
http://www.bing.com/webmaster/SubmitSitePage.aspx
The Open Directory
http://www.dmoz.org/add.html
Once you have submitted to these, you blog will start to work its way up the search ranks. You need to keep writing and attracting traffic with interesting articles that use keywords and some highlighted text, but eventually you should start to see more readers coming to your blog.
However, if you want you climb the ranks faster, a good way to help things along is to use back-links to your articles. They don't take long and really help!

UPDATE:
I can honestly say that submitting my Hubpages URL to all the major search engines is one of the best things that I have done, just look at the stats:
As of 10/01/2012, I have had 7,195 readers.
Traffic from hubpages = 3432 readers
Direct Traffic from my URL = 645 readers
The rest is search engines and possibly referral traffic (although, I would imagine that Hubpages considers internal traffic as being from Hubpages).

Great hub Brett! Very useful with great advice. Thank you for sharing this with others!
Wonderful hub! So much great information, my head is spinning! I submitted my profile page to the search engines several months ago. I do want to ask...do I need to resubmit ever so often, or submit the url of each new hub? I appreciate the help ever so much! Voted this up and sharing! :) Hmmm, no place to vote or share on here.....
Thanks Brett, it is really interesting stuff to note and helps a lot.
thank you for the links submitted
thanks for the guidance
Brett we know many people who can use this information. I will be happy to SHARE with them. I need to write a blog and use this as the "lead to" for it. I will do that when the sites are up an going. For now It is going to one of the facebook fan pages.
Thank You, any helpful ways to get that traffic is great. Looks like you have some great hubs.
Excellent hub! I am still learning about SEO's and these processes. I will definatley give your suggestions a try. Thanks for your generosity in sharing this knowledge!
Another great hub. Thank you so much for posting.
I've done this on private web sites and it does work well but you have have to resubmit monthly, or at least check regularly to make sure it is still being crawled regularly by the search engines.
Thanks. Voted up! I'll give it a try.
Super great info for people who are writing with a niche :). This will help a lot of people in getting the traffic they deserve. Voting up and useful. Thanks for sharing.
Great info. I'll definitely try this!
Thank you for sharing!
Hi all, thank you for the many comments. In response to a couple of questions raised;
1) You only submit your main URL, then the search engine will index all of your pages. However, after this, when you write a hub you can ping it to help get it indexed.
2) I have now updated the Google URL to give you more options, as Google has updated its services.
Hope you all get readers soon! But, allow a couple of weeks, sometimes a bit longer.
Great information. I've bookmarked some of the stuff here, as well as this hub. Voted up and SHARED, too.
Brett, Fantastic! Bookmarked, voted up and in my file!
Thanks for all the tips and information. Well worth the reading!
Lisa
This is really great info. Your hubs are always so helpful. I have a quick question though. When submitting to search engines am I just submitting my profile URL or do I submit each individual hub? I'll check back. Thanks.
Thanks for the great tips!
Awesome info, Brett! Very useful, interesting, and voted hub. Thanks for this information. I've done this type of bookmarking a few times, but I need to do it on a regular basis. Thanks for the reminder. Bookmarking and SHARING!
the Google site says upload this file to your webpage. What does that mean? upload where?please explain
This is very interesting. I have done it a few times but I am very bad at getting my hubs seen. Sound advice. Up useful and sharing!
Omb doing this now!
Hi Kristine,
It might take 1-2 months to be indexed, but it is definitely worth it! Search engine traffic is more likely to click those adverts too ;-).
Thanks Brett, I have not thought to submit my URL from my Hubs to Google or any other search engine. Voted up!
Thanks for all your comments. I have now UPDATED the broken links and Yahoo submission. Thank you for letting me know they weren't working.
Also, as for the date, us strange lot from the UK write months and dates in reverse to the US lol, so today is 23/01/2012 (DD/MM/YYYY)
Thanks Brett for this advice. I'm certainly going to try this. But first I'll have to study it, so as to be able to get it right. Voted up, useful, awesome, interesting. SHARING
good work, now a days submission to Yahoo is not possible, but Bing is working. Rated this hub as useful.
Very helpful and useful information.
Thanks for SHARING.
This sounds very helpful. Will surely try that.I am bookmarking this Hub.Thanks for sharing the useful information.
FYI: This link "Boost your Website/Blog - 25 Backlinks Daily for Free!!" brings me right back to this hub rather than the hub about backlinks.
Glad to have found the information you've provided here. I do submit my urls to Google, but hadn't been doing so with the other search engines.
Interesting... BTW just posted this on my FB for future perusal...
but i think there is something wrong with this: "As of 10/01/2012, I have had 7,195 readers." this is October 1, 2012...
Great hub - many will find this useful! Thanks for SHARING:)
Thanks for all you comments guys. Yes, this still works and makes a big difference after 2-6 weeks (takes time to be indexed). You only need do it once, after that you can use my other hub techniques to get indexed fast.
Glad you all found it useful.
This is very useful advice Brett.Tesol, thanks. I'm not much when it comes to the technical stuff, but your explanation and advice seems clear enough to follow. I'll give this a shot.
Good post. Finding the best keywords can be a nuisance but they can all the difference. Thanks for SHARING.
Hi Debbie Roberts,
Yea, Keywords can be confusing at first, but it is actually pretty simple. Try having a read of this:

Thanks for reading.
I am book marking this thanks
I am coming to this in January 2012! I hope this still works and will give it a try.
Certainly a useful hub. I'm still getting my head around researching key words!! Will have to look into submitting hubs. Thank you.
Hi Deborah Brooks
Thanks. You have some good hubs too, so if you follow these steps, after 3-6 weeks you should see your search engine traffic increase. If also doesn't hurt to ping your hubs after writing them.
Awesome hub
Hi Amymarie_5,
Thanks! Saved as a favorite eh ... from feedback, this must have been one of my better hubs lol. Glad you found it useful. If you use the backlink hubs too, read the comments ... lots of extra info ;-).
Hi Brett,
This is very useful info. I'm always looking for new sites to link my hubs. Ive actually saved this hub as a favorite because it's so helpful!
missolive -
Wow bookmarked eh! :-) Hope it helps bring you some more traffic

I would recommend that you only submit your main URL. However to help get things indexed faster when you write new hubs, may I recommend that you read one of my latest hubs:

It has some very good advice for getting your hubs indexed quicker.

Thanks for the votes! Glad it was useful.
Brett - very interesting hub. Bookmarking and giving it a try with my Blog. Thank you for sharing.
Awesome info. Well, am wondering if I can submit my hub url for each hub I write to these search engines rather than my hubpages url. Will it be a better option. This way my specific hub will be in their know, sort of?
Thanks for sharing. Voted up & awesome.
I keep looking up this hub to get the link! I think this deserves an Up and Awesome.
Hey cheerfulnuts,
No problem, hope it works for you. Today I'm suddenly getting traffic from many places :-) ... maybe it has kicked in fully. Just a shame my hubscore doesn't like comments and traffic, as it dropped 4 points today ... but guessing that is just while things settle down after the change, it is bound to take a month or so I would imagine.
Brett, thank you for the info. I'll definitely try this!:)
Hi danielleantosz,
Not a problem, it should really make a difference! Hope you get the extra traffic I am already seeing :-)
Thanks for the tips!
Good for you Suramya.K, you deserve some decent traffic!
I'm getting constant traffic too, despite not having published a hub for almost a week now. On the old setup, things would have dried up by now. Just giving it a few more days for all search engines to change over to my new URL, then I'll be back in the game fully with some new Hubs.
Congratulations! Now I experienced the pre-panda HubPages, traffic and traffic.
* Update *
Since changing to the new Hubpages user URL, traffic is coming in from search engines! After just 24 hours!! Have you made the switch? This hub also seems to have become popular, as more people are submitting their blogs to search engines .... Thanks to all of you for reading.
Hey, Suramya.K
I think this is a positive move by Hubpages! I've already had search engine traffic to the new URL and it has only been 24 hours since I changed and sent them the address to Google, Bing and Yahoo. Hope it continues :-).
The Panda thing shouldn't affect us anyway, now that we have our own URLs ... we produce decent unique content, so Google should love it! (at least in theory).
Just an update: I'm getting like RUSH of traffic! Never saw the huge traffic into my hubs in five months. Although I could not manage to get AdSense clicks, my HubPages ads revenue increased 50%. Looks like HP bounced back and now we're out of the Panda thing. Hope this continues!
Hi Suramya.K,
Glad you have made the switch to your own URL too. I think the traffic side will go crazy for 2-6 weeks, but then should settle down. I thought it would be worth giving the search engines a nudge to say we are separate now by submitting the new URLs ... I'm hoping that the change will really help restore the previous traffic levels (before the Google fall out). Will let you know how it goes ...
I followed you suggestion and submitted my new HubPages sub-domain profile to Google. Hope it gets indexed faster and I keep getting consistent traffic. I think we're about to see a decrease in traffic due to decrease in page rank of our hubs. It would take time to get more authority, I guess. Whats your experience with the new sub-domain?
Hi Snurre,
Thanks for the positive feedback, nice to read on a dull rainy day like today. Your Search-Engine-Rank link is excellent too, I had never heard of this tool, but it'll be great to know where my hubs stand with Google! I will have a play soon ...
Very good hub and some good basic SEO tips, Brett! By the way, if you want to know for sure where your hubs are in Google, you can use this tool and get independent results: http://www.searchenginegenie.com/google-rank-check
You can check the global position or position by country.
On a plus side, by marking keywords with bold text and using multiple capsules for 'keyword titles' throughout the hub, there has still be lots of traffic from Google to this hub ... despite the slight error :-)
Hey kksonakiya,
LOL ... great spot! This article has been read nearly 200 times, but you are the only one to notice it ... cheers.
I always run spell check for keying errors (as I tend to type fast and frequently hit the wrong keys), but for some reason neither my browser's checker, nor the Hubpages checker will notice titles ... a possible improvement area me thinks ;-) lol.
Thanks for reading and taking the time to comment!
Hi Brett.Tesol, nice article and nice use of backlinks for ur other hubs as well.
Btw, i m sure u have noticed that the subtitle of this article says, "lay it out for search Englines", should it not be "Engines".
Well, if you did it on purpose (many folks change words to grab attention), then ignore this msg.
Great hub again brett. Voting u up.
Hey Suramya.K,
Wow ... consistent adsense revenue .. nice one. I've been getting some money too recently, seems to be getting much more frequent too. Since I've been using all these techniques, after 8-9 weeks I now seem to be averaging 35-55% organic search engine traffic ... but I still want more! lol
Thanks for the motivating comment. I'm quite relaxed now that it is bringing in consistent traffic. I've got some AdSense revenue from that page and I've been getting it "consistently". Thanks, your support was appreciated!
LOL ... not a problem ... a whole country seeing you for the search is still pretty good and most people make the second page of Google anyway when looking for something ;-).
Ohh wait, the front page was on my country specific Google what???).. yes, on the main Google (dot) com, I'm on the 2nd page. But I'm not discouraged. If I can make it to the 2nd page, I can make it to the first page too.. uff!!
Hi Suramya.K,
LOL ... Not a problem. I'm happy to recommend good hubs to my followers. Especially as you are also a very active commenter. Hope you get some more followers from it ... we could all do with a few more followers right! :-).
Thanks for your regular comments and tips too. I hope to finally get a check from Google in the next month or two!
Brett, thanks a lot and also for recommending my hub to your followers.
I guess my nose hit the monitor now (ahh!!).
Yes, back linking has been beneficial for me and now I'm creating more and I'll try digging and stumbling them with a hope to get viral. Thanks for all the support, wish you hit the first page soon!!
Fantastic news ... glad it has worked for you too!
It is a bit of extra work, but it definitely pays off. 1st page of Google eh! That is something to be proud of! Congratulations :-)
Anyone reading this hub may also want read about backlinking here, then pop over to:
http://hubpages.com/hub/How-To-Get-Consistent-Traf
as he covers manual backlinking and some good sites for creating Do-follow links.
OMG!! Guess what? My hub about getting consistent traffic is on the first page of Google for "how to get consistent traffic". I was signed in to my Google account that time, so I thought it was the case. But I signed out and typed again to see the hub in the second place. I guess back links have worked!!
haha, thanks!
Glad you liked it. I've made more than $45 in two months and I'm waiting for my first AdSense payment. Thanks to Webanswers!
And guess what? WebAnswers allow you to put links to your hubs and blogs in your profile page and they are do-follow back links. But you should not put those links in questions and answers. Happy earnings!
Hi Suramya.K,
Cheers for the info (saves me searching and gives you a link ;-)). It looks very interesting, I'm all for getting a little cash from adsense!
Time to ask some questions!
I mean I've got some referrals from WebAnswers. WebAnswers is a question-answer website like Y! Answers but the main difference is that it shares 60% revenue via Google AdSense. The majority of AdSense income are from WebAnswers and its good to answer questions and make money at the same time. Here are my hubs: http://hubpages.com/hub/how-to-make-more-money-onl
and, http://hubpages.com/hub/WebAnswers-Review-Make-Mon
Hope you like it. And thanks for the information about Dmoz. Now I'm going for it..!
Hi Suramya.K,
Thanks for the tip on Webanswers. I will pop over to you hub to check it out.
Do you mean write hubs of webanswers? Or on Hubpages? I'm not sure what you mean ...
DMOZ looks to be a large directory ... http://www.dmozzilla.com/
Did you submit your URL? Or did someone do it for you? Either way, it is good to have another link ;-)
How can I encourage them to write hubs? And one more thing- what is DMOZ? Is it a search engine too or just a directory? What does it mean if it says "listed in Dmoz"..?
Haha, yes it feels good when you realize you've helped someone. And you're right, I've got some referrals from my hubs. I include one referral link in every hub to interlink between my hubs from where I've got one referral. I've got another referral as a result of facebook share and one from WebAnswers (Are you on webanswers? Its fun to make adsense money there, do check out my hubs on webanswers!).
But the bad news is that all of them are inactive and don't have any hubs.
Hi Suramya.K,
WOW .. I think that is my most detailed comment yet! Thanks for taking the time to write it.
I submitted my hub to ALL search engines about 6 weeks ago. You need to keep creating new content (at least 2 decent hubs a week) and also update (can be new info, or additions to comments). You should also PING every time you post new content. As for Keywords, I write for fun ... but I tend to check the subject I am writing on and throw in 2 or 3 (in titles and content) that fit what I am saying smoothly and preferably don't have too much competition.
The way you are going on here ... you will get referrals! Keep commenting ... as they are also 'backlinks' to your hub ;-).
Thanks for writing ... hope you get the traffic soon. But, when you do, please stop by to let me know how you got on and where you manage to get traffic. I really hope this info helps other hubbers ... just for that 'Ive helped someone' feelgood feeling!
Are you getting traffic from the search engines for this hub? Can you share what keywords are bringing in the traffic? Keywords in comments also help a lot. I was discussing the same thing with Bendo13 in the comments of his hubs. Surprisingly, keywords like "does hubpages allow adbrite ads" and "adbrite review" brought traffic to his hub where there's no any word about adbrite. In fact, I've two hubs about adBrite. Similarly, keywords like "SheToldMe review" brought him some organic traffic too which were on comments. Did you find unusual keywords?
Ok, now I got it. I'll definitely submit my profile URL to the search engines. Hope they index those hubs faster and supply me some consistent and high quality organic traffic. And, congrats for getting more natural traffics. You've diverse sources of inbound traffic, I must say. Keep it up! Thanks!
And, a little addition: The numbers of hubbers following me has increased this week and I've written more hubs this week than ever. This might have alerted the inbox of those followers quite often and now I'm also getting traffic from Windows Live Mail. Congrats to both of us!
*** UPDATE ****
Now getting traffic from Yahoo, Bing (MSN) and Google ... and loving it! lol
Hey Suramya.K
Cheers for popping back this way. Your comments are always detailed and much appreciated. It is Definitely worth including keywords, but go easy on yourself ... sure we would all like the big sellers, but don't ruin a good piece to include them. Just pick keywords that fit in OK and make them bold (just a few mind, Google hates 'spammed keywords!'.
As for submitting your articles, I don't mean each one. You have a unique address for your 'Profile' (your profile page). Submit that and the search engines will index the pages under your Hub profile - it worked for me. Of course, you can also just wait until the 1000s (possibly 1000000s) of Hubpages are indexed ... but I believe in helping things along a little ;-)
I always face difficulties in choosing the keywords for my hubs. Even I choose some high paying low volume keywords, they tend to be so irrelevant that its hard to put them anywhere in the hub. But I'll definitely try again.
Regarding submitting the hub to search engines, isn't it that all the internal pages will automatically be indexed once hubpages.com is indexed or is it something else? Will submitting our hub to search engines help them crawl it faster?
*** UPDATE ****
After submitting my Hub Profile just over 6 weeks ago, I am now getting traffic from both 'Google' and 'Mail.Live' (Bing)!
Every little helps :-)
Hi JSParker,
Thanks for the vote. I think that is why most of us are here, it seems to be for people that love writing and want an extra income. Those just here for the money seem to 'fade fast!'. On a good note, I only submitted to search engines about 6 weeks ago (while doing the same for my website) and I'm already starting to get some traffic from good ol' Google :-)
Please let me know how you get on ...
Voted "useful"! I had no idea I could submit my hubs manually to the search engines. Fascinating! I would really like to make some money with Hub Pages...in the spirit of loving what you do and making money, too. Thanks.
Hi Cocopreme,
Thanks for reading. Glad it was of use! It works for blogs, hubs and websites ... the links make the process MUCH easier ;-).
Hope you get search engine traffic soon!
Good SEO information. I will have to remember this for my blog.
Hi Writeronline,
Thanks for dropping by.
I have now had hits from Google, it took about 3 weeks ... but it works. They will also index all your hubs slowly, but your need to keep driving people to read your hubs (links) ... then Google will start to lend a hand.
You may also find the Backlinks article interesting. If you don't use the program style back-linking, you can always write your own external 'promotions'.
Good luck!! :-)
Great information, thanks for posting this. I'm like myi4u above - never occurred to me to load my profile, but as you point out, a HubPages profile has its own url, an 'about the author' intro section, and discrete content elements which are frequently added to. It's a blog by another name...
Thanks again, Brett, I'm off to get Googled, (well, get ready to get Googled.. ;)
Hi myi4u,
Thanks for reading.
I just tried it out a while back, as I know it takes time for search engines to register new content. To my surprise, it worked without a hitch :-) ... hence this post. I guess hubs are blogs really, each has their own address and they are grouped under your user-name.
Hope it works for you too
Brett
Interesting info! I never thought that we could submit hubs to Google. I thought it was only for blogs and website contents.
rahul0324 2 weeks ago
Great hub and great advice brett! thank you :)
