Why not Big Up your Blog? Create some website Backlinks!

Free Backlinks ... Why aren't you Bigging Up your Blog?
Many people on Hubpages and other blog sites are trying hard to increase the number of readers visiting their page each day. They are hard at work networking, commenting and using keywords to draw people to their site. However, quite strangely, many are not marketing outside the site for which they write (staying within one online community). It is kind of like opening a shop down a side street, telling the people in the street that you are open, but then not doing any advertising around the town. You need referrals, posters, notices ... especially if you want to get traffic ('customers') and in cyberspace you also need to persuade major search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing that your site is WORTH sending readers to.
One way you can do this is through Backlinks. This sounds like something complicated (it did to me two months ago!), but it honestly isn't. All a 'backlink' is, is a small advert for your blog/article/website on another site. It works a bit like a high-five from that site, saying that your site is pretty cool. The better the other website, the better the backlink (as far as search engines are concerned) ... just like being noticed by someone with serious style in a bar ... it's all about association!!
With any luck, people will read these 'recommendations' and hopefully click the links ... bringing them over to your place. This be done in a 'natural' way using community backlinking. You will have to register with a few sites and post adverts for your new articles, but imagine tappping into a few communities like that of Hubpages for each of your hubs .... sounds good doesn't it!
How to create good backlinks for your Hubs/Blogs
Many of the websites and software programs on the market providing backlinks to websites/blogs work in a similar ways to spamming. This is not good, as although they may post 1000s of blurbs to 1000s of websites linking to your website, these are often completely unrelated websites and sometimes just randomly selected sites. Furthermore, search engines are wise to this method and understand that if you suddenly get a 1000 backlinks in a day, chances are that you are cheating (which, unless you write REALLY fast ... you are).
Although you can buy backlinks, there are some great spots to place free backlinks. These are normally on social networks similar to that of hubpages, but that allow 'Bookmarks'. These aren't complete detailed hubs like you are writing here, but instead are small hubs (bookmarks) of 100-150 words. This allows you to quickly promote you blog/hub and just like Hubpages, the more you post, the more followers you build up! The result is that your hubs will build up a following across four (or more) social networks instead of just one. Sites that I am using and find to be good are:
I personally like Triond, as it is easy to use and doesn't require a long blog/bookmark article. However, they are all pretty good for extra traffic and there are 100s of social networks that you can also choose from. For these three however, they only require short posts, which means you can focus on writing you blogs :-). Once the Bookmarks are sent (to be checked), you should get an email to confirm if your post has been accepted and published. However, you should return to the sites from time to time and that your check backlinks have been created successfully (some may fail due to spelling, word count or linking styles, but most should go through OK).
So, what are you waiting for? Go and BIG UP your Blog! (...or website) and just return occasionally to do a backlinks check and follow a few people on each social network.
If this was useful to you, I'd be interested to hear (read) your thoughts or how you get on.

I tried triond based on your recommendation. Easy to use and nice formatting options. I will have to give the other sites on your list a go!
Hi Sinea,
It is best to use original content at all times on the web, copied content does not go in your favor. However, in regards to backlinks, I can explain that simply for you. It is a link to the URL of your hub, like when you suggest another hub in your writing, that is a backlink, as when people click it they get taken to your hub.
The best type of backlinks are articles and comments. When you create comments, each one on Hubpages will backlink to your profile. When you write an article on another site, you can link to a similar article or topic on Hubpages, creating more readers for yourself. Does that make sense?
Very good hub, Brett. I just registered by HubPages profile page with the search engines! Thanks for the suggestion. Triond is interesting. Does the content have to be original to Triond or do you post your work from other sites there? I don't quite understand how it gets backlinks. Want to write a hub about it? :) I'll read it!
I need to learn and understand these things. I refuse to be an old dog, but sometimes it feels that way. Backlinks have been around a long time and I have yet to understand and make use of them. Your Hub leap-frogged me a few steps forward. Thank you. I will begin today!
This is great information Brett. I know I need to go outside my usual social marketing channels, and need to find the time to learn how to use these. Voted up.
Great information about getting backlinks for blogs thanks.
I use most of the sites you suggest and find Shetoldme very good. Never heard of Triend so will give that site a go too.
Thanks for sharing
Backlinking is important and does help with search engine placement. I have hubs which are getting hits, they are on page 1 in small niches, they could doing better with more quality backlinking. I have noticed since my hubs have been backlinked with my facebook and twitter and with all the sharing going on readership has increased.
SHARING to help others realize the importance of backlinking.
Found this by accident, so happy I did. Great information and thank you very much for sharing. Voted up.
Great hub! Very informative and explained well. I am currently using EBlog and StumbleUpon. Looks like I need to try another. Thank you for SHARING this information. Voted up and useful! Have a great day! :)
Now that we are all moving to our own URLs, making your Hubs look good to search engines is more important than ever! So, grab some do-follow backlinks and draw some traffic to your new independently ranked hubs. This list will help, but constantly promote your hubs whenever you have the time.
Hey Seriousnuts,
LOL ... don't worry, so did I (didn't read the rules). Just email their service team, tell them you didn't read the T&Cs, but that you will obied by them in the future. They are normally fair about this, but they are quite strict, so be careful. It is a good site, but you have to write a full article, not just backlink.
Digg followers grow quickly, so it is a very good site!
Good luck!
Oh no! I was banned by Xomba. My bad for not reading the posting rules properly. Should have put signatures at the end of the article.
I am currently trying out digg. I've managed to gain a number of followers there. I'm hoping to get some traffic there.
My sister has redgage, we are sharing an account. :)
Thanks for the great info Brett. I'm still considering to make another Xomba account after being banned. Do you think it's worth a try?
Hey Seriousnuts,
I've just updated it with a couple of other excellent sites I've come across this last month. They are good, because you only submit the link, a title, keywords and a one line description (not 150-300 words like some ask for).
Please let me know what you think of the sites. Cheers for commenting.
Thanks for sharing this Brett. I've been using Shetoldme for quite some time already. I'm going to try the other two websites you provided.
Hey Anaya,
Thanks for the excellent list. A couple of those I hadn't heard of, so will take a look. I HIGHLY recommend Redgage.com, feel free to find me on there too 'Bretttesol' ;-). It is an excellent site and if you use the upload link feature, it makes it very easy to produce backlinks to Hubpages!
I use shetoldme, digg, reddit, and occasionally xomba or snipsly. another good one is best reviewer, which is made by the same person as shetoldme. You create a top 3,5, 10 etc. list, which could be top three articles on whatever topic. It gives backlinks for a few sites at once without the need for the write up. Another one I just heard of but haven't started using yet is RedGage.
Hey Joe,
Cheers for the tip, every bit helps. This one shoots out up to 10 bookmark batches a day, but they can have all be sent in one day, 15 days, or 45 days. So, if you want, that can be 10 batches per day.
I will definitely loon at Onlywire though ... sounds pretty good and the more links the better right! :-)
Good article. I'm using onlywire to shotgun about 20 or so sights at a time. I'm still in the process of building up those sites. What it does is post your 100-150 word mini-post about your article to up to 40 places. Try that as well for more back links.
Hi Alocsin,
Glad you liked it and cheers for voting. Hope the info helps bring you a few extra readers.
Excellent advice that I'm going to try. Voting this Up and Useful.
Hi Whoisbid,
Thanks for the comment. Yea, it takes a bit longer ... so maybe finish those other blogs first lol. However, for an extra 20mins work, you have referrals from three major sites :-) ... every extra reader helps
You write about some positive things. More power to you. I have not tried your recommendations yet but I believe you are right from a technical perspective that we need as many referrers as possible. I will come back here when I am done with my other blogs ..LOL!
Hi Rorshak Sobchak,
Thanks for reading and pleased you found the information useful ... hope it helps boost your traffic!
Great ideas. Thanks for the hub!!! :0
Hi Samsons1,
Good to see you back. Too true, every comment matters and if you have backlinks too, all the better! ;-).
Cheers for the votes
Hi CostReductionGuru,
Thanks for stopping by. Tried to find a few 'cheapies' that people may actually want to invest a few bucks in ... no need to pay fortunes these days ;-).
thanks Brett, very good read and well written. I just happen to belong to the same three you mentioned and a few more. Every comment and reply helps I think. Voted up and useful my friend...
Well, done and I like your book choices!
Thanks for writing a comment Joe Bricky,
Hope the tips help you to get some Search Engine Traffic! I'm already getting result ... but always want more! lol

Excellent stuff. Gonna go check it out.
Thanks for the comment Phil.
Heard from a fellow Hubber that 'Shetoldme' gives ONLY 'do-follow' links (fantastic for search engines) ... so be sure to plug all your hubs there! ;-)
Let me know if you get an increase (might take 2-5 weeks though)
Great hub, very useful, I'll try them out to see if that helps improve my traffic.
